Hi,

There is probably a very simple answer to this question, but I cannot seem to either make it happen on the board or find details within the manual.

I am simply trying to change the voice which plays on a given MIDI channel. Easy! I've got a bunch of MIDI files on a USB stick, and would like to change the channel voices (from say Piano Patch A to Piano Patch B on MIDI Channel 1).

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Wes,

The RD700GX is not really designed for this useage, but it can be done. You need to use the appropriate continuous controleer numbers and patch change numbers to call up individual sounds over midi. So for each sound there are 3 numbers you need to recall that sound. These are called cc00, cc32, and pc. These are listed in the manual for each patch. In your DAW, you need to call these up in individual parts/channels. You may use up to 16 at the most. You will find problems using effects with these patches though, as these cannot be assigned and edited over midi. For this purpose, we make the Fantom series which can do all of thesze functions.

Thank you for the reply, John.

I am aware of how to change voices via Sonar, but disappointed that the RD is incapable of doing something so basic on-board. I know the Fantom could do this, and as I understand so does the Juno range and GW-8. For all the things the RD-700GX does well, it is quite limited in some areas for such an expensive board.

Mine is in excellent condition, so if you want to swap it for the Fantom G88 sat in your warehouse collecting dust, you have my number wink

Is it not possible to include the bank select & program change messages within the MIDI files stored on the USB stick?
