Ok, so I have a Roland TD9 KX kit. I'm having to connect it to my computer via MIDI to USB because the MR816 I/O I use does not have a MIDI port.

I load up Toontracks Superior Drummer then start to play. It triggers the sounds perfectly BUT. . . When you start to play a beat some of the hits suddenly cut out or wont play at all. Why is this?

Is there somthing set wrong or is this MIDI to USB cable I got bottlenecking?

I've set my DAW (Cubase 4) to record me playing just to see if the missing sounds are being recorded into MIDI but they're not. Suggesting it's either the TD9 or my MIDI to USB

Depends...
Are you using both in & out MIDI connections on the TD-9?
I'm wondering if there's a possible MIDI loop, does it still happen if you disconnect the MIDI in to the TD-9?

It's possible the MIDI to USB cable is giving up because of the data the TD-9 is generating, especially if it's one of those 'ebay happy shopper' interfaces.
If you can, try and get hold of a 'branded' MIDI interface (even if it's borrowed) to try and see if it resolves the problem.

Hey, I'ved tried just using 1 MIDI cable and it still does the same thing. I'm starting to wonder if it's the cable it's self. When I use the TD9s kits it's fine, onnly when i'm triggering the drum software it does this.

I've tried recording a performance in cubase 4 just to check if the midi signal is going through dispite the fact I cant hear 70% of the hits. Turns out that cubase isnt recording them missing hits either. So that makes me to think "[censored] MIDI to USB cable".

I'm going to get a refund then try another one. Can you reccomend me a decent MIDI to USB that wont have any issues? You see i'm using this in my studio and wouldnt like any lag/missing hit problems when I'm recording drummers.

Thanks for the reply

Does appear that the USB/MIDI cable is the weakest link... Goodbye

Before it goes, try reducing the gate time TD-9.

As to a replacement:
I've a couple of old midiman BiPort 2X4's that have never let me down.
I midiman merged, or became M-audio.
