Hi. I bought my GT-3 in 1997 and i guess the battery is going to fail at some point (yup, still the original battery). Is there a short fail-safe period when the old battery is removed so i don't lose my data prior to replacing it.

Not sure about that... I don't think so. Safest bet is to do a MIDI backup regularly if you have the capability. If not, a very basic MIDI setup can be put together relatively cheaply which would do the job on a PC.
