hi there
I'm looking to get new e- cymbals and was wondering what the differences are between
all of them...I need 2 crashes and a ride..the cy8's are priced good but how do they respond vs the cy-14c etc
and the ride, I'm looking at the cy12r/c vs the cy-15r I have the v-h12 picked out already
My brain is the roland td-12 any advice would be great I have hart e-cymbals now but want to change to roland..
In my experience, the response you get from Roland cymbals depends more on the brain unit you use from the Roland range, rather than the pads themselves. All are designed to be compatible with the TD12. The VH12 makes a lot of sense.
One thing to note, it would be impossible to use a CY8 as a ride cymbal and expect to get triple trigger zones from it. There are only 2 trigger zones on a CY8.
The major benefit in going for the larger cymbals is for the increased playing area you can strike, and for asthetic appeal. You should still be able to produce lovely swells on the crash cymbals even with CY8's.
Obviously the kit is set-up normally with CY12's. These make good sense, and offer a good compromise between playability and price.
I hope you enjoy your new cymbals, whichever you choose.
