Hi guys,
Ive just got a new TD12 kit and its just occurred to me that i could amp it through my hi-fi speakers and save space.
does anyone know if this could damage them (the speakers that is)?

Hi!

Nice set of speakers you have for your hi-fi there!

I have done this before myself. I had a TD12 kit on loan for a while (one of the perks of the job - we have to train ourselves on the gear somehow!)

Anyway, I had it at home. The only monitoring I had available to me was on old surround amp for my TV system and a pair of JBL hi-fi speakers.

The key thing to watch here is that the amp and speakers are matched. If anything it is normally considered better to have an overpowered amp rather than under-powerered, as an under-powered amp will run much hotter, and is more likely to clip and cause distortion. However if you do use an overpowered amp, you need to watch the volume level.

For me, the sound was awesome, and I thoroughly enjoyed having the kit for that brief time.

The outputs of the TD12 are 'line level' so should be ok if you connect to a line level input on the amplifier. Just don't plug into the turntable input on your amp, even if it is the only spare input you have. It is a much more sensitive input. All your other inputs should be line level.

Be careful, and watch the volume. At the first hint of distortion, you need to turn down the volume. Don't go breaking your speakers!

Good luck.
