Hi Alan,
Thankyou VERY much for your genius and your kind e-mail. I very much appreciate it. Thankyou also for the instrument definitions. Greatly appreciated. I have given the XV-5050 a thorough workout today under the 64-bit driver you inovatively 'created' and it works 100% perfectly!! Brilliant stuff!!
I am a newbie to these forums an I'm guessing that critisism of ROLAND is probably a no-no... but a really must say that I am a programmer myself (among many other things) and the excuses that these hardware firms are using to not provide 64-bit drivers for their products is wearing a little thin with me. 64-bit arcitechture is the way of the future of computing and NEW drivers do NOT need to be written for the 64-bit environment... It's just a matter of taking the original 32-bit source code and re-compiling it for the 64-bit environment!!! It would literally take someone under 10 minutes per driver!!! If these firms don't want to do it, then they should release their source code to the public so that those in the know can do it!!!! The idea that the copyright of the source code of their driver is a big secret and belongs to them is a joke. The driver serves but one purpose and that is to interface with your printer or scanner or in this case synth and no one is going to rip it off and base another product on it because it can only do what it does... it's not going to form the base code for the next smash hit computer game for the play station for heavens sake...
Can anyone say, 'Planned redundency?'... I wonder...
Alan, I am wondering. I can't remember if the lower model, the XV-2020 had a USB interface but I know the higher model, the XV-5080 did. Have you thought about doing another mod to the driver. Other fellow XV series owners might benefit from your wisdom and nouse. These synths are under 10 years old... Somebody has to help the strong comunity of users...
Thanks again, mate.
Appreciated.
Napier.
