MY first visit to these forums so please be gentle wink

I have just got an XP-80 and need to hook it up to Cubase 2 SX running on a PC. I have got the MIDI in working via an EDIROL UM-1SX but have a couple of questions...

1) How do I get Cubase to trigger the XP-80 from midi recordings in Cubase as the MIDI out port appears not to be active &
2) Is there a XML file to import into the MIDI device manager?

Cheers!

Hello John.

Welcome.
Not a Cubase user, so not sure how to answer those points raised..
Are you sure the MIDI output is non functional?
Normally (or at least on Logic, and Sonar) you have to tell the sequencer program where the MIDI data has to go, in terms of MIDI port (as some have more than one MIDI out), and the MIDI channel.
See if this helps:

Here is the nearest I could get to your XP-80's instrument defination for Cubase, not a XML file, but going by the information, it appears the txt file can be imported:

You will need to use the XP-80 in 'performance' mode if you want to use it multi-tambrally, using a 'sequencer template'.
Another thing to consider, turning off local control, basically disconnects the keyboard from the sound engine in the XP-80, but it still ends it out the MIDI port.
You will hear a flamming / phasey sound otherwise as the notes you play will double up.
There is a handy button on the left hand side of the LCD "Local/Tx/Rx" this takes you to the MIDI control screen.
