I recently purchased a Edirol UA-101 USB Audio Interface and have been unable to get the outputs to work correctly. The inputs work fine. I am running Ableton 8.1.3. The output level indicator shows audio being sent from the computer and the headphone jack transmits the audio from the computer. If anyone has any ideas as to what the issue may be, any help that can be provided would be appreciated.

Hello & welcome Chris.

What are the outputs of the interface plugged into, and what problems are you having?
Which outputs are you actually using?
You refer to an audio output level meter, is this on the audio interface, or within Ableton?

My setup is as such. EMX-1 drum machine into Inputs 1-4. The outputs are setup so that Outs 1-2 are Master Drums out to Mixer from Ableton, Outs 3-4 are Master Synths out to other channel on mixer, and Outs 5-6 is output from Ableton to KP3. Then the KP3 Out is routed back in to Ins 5-6 of the UA-101 and then routed out via one of my master channels.

When I play audio from Ableton, the Audio Level Meters both in Ableton and on the UA-101 light up. Sound from Ableton, the KP3, and the EMX-1 all cause the Audio Level Monitor on the UA-101 to respond and the sound can be heard via the Headphone Jack. Both the Audio Level and Headphones are set to monitor the Output only.

So my sounds are definately getting to the UA-101. I called Roland tech support and the guy had me try the Outputs and when they didn't work told me to send them in. Before I send it in I would like to be sure that I'm not just missing something. It may not be something I'm missing with the UA-101 but with Ableton. This is my first experience with an interface as I started with all hardware so I could easily just be overlooking something simple.

Hello Chris.

An interesting set-up...
Out of interest what mixer are you using to connect the UA-101 too?

One 'trick' you could try, plugging headphones directly into one of the assigned outs;
So as you've set up outs 1-2 for drums (coming from Ableton I guess) plug your headphones into 1 or 2.
You should be able to hear something on the left-hand side of the headphones, it might be quiet, but at least it will confirm if the output is working or not.
Likewise if you plug the headphones into 3 or 4 yo should hear your synths.

I am using a Korg KM-2 Mixer with a KP2 pad and effects. The reason that I run the EMX-1 into Ableton is I split drums and synths up. That way I can have any EMX-1 drums and any Ableton drums combined onto the same channel and likewise with the synths. Then I can apply, a mixer effect like reverb on my drums without having to also effect the synths coming from the EMX-1. The EMX-1 is my main drum source, though it is sequenced by Ableton.

When I called Roland they had me plug in the headphones to the output jacks and I heard nothing. I also tested the setup by playing something through the setup without the UA-101 and sound came through normally.
