Can anyone please tell me which metal footswitch to choose for making the open hi-hat sound on the handsonic HPD10. There seems to be 2 compatible Boss models :-

FS-5U Silver Momentary Unlatch-Type footswitch

FS-5L Black Latch-Type Footswitch

I honestly have no idea which one is suitable for this job, as I don't know the differences between the 2 models

Also can anyone tell me if the KD-8 kick drum will work instead of the KD-7 which Roland recommends.

Mr. Dragon..
Hello & welcome..

From Roland's own web site:
Footswitch : BOSS FS-5U (so a non latching switch - which makes sense)
Pedal switch: DP-2 (not sure if this is for hi-hat control - it's non latching as well, so a FS-5U will work too)
Kick trigger: KD-7. KD-8, etc (so yes a KD-8 will work fine)

Differences between latched / non latched;
Latched pressed - switch activates and locks in place allowing foot to be removed. Will stay on until switch is pressed again to turn it off.
Non latched - switch only stays on for as long as the foot holds it on, as soon as foot is removed, the switch turns off.

You will need a stereo splitter / insert lead to make this work as you want, one goes to the foot switch, the other to the kick pad trigger.
Don't buy a stereo - split in to 2 stereo connections lead, it needs to be a stereo to separate left / right channel lead. Some will come to a mono jack plug, some use a mono jack in-line socket, in which case use will need a couple of jack-to-jack leads.

Thanks very much for the quick reply. This has been very helpful indeed and much appreciated.
