Hi,

I recently got my roland Gaia and i'm trying to set it up so i can record the sounds into logic pro 9 from the Gaia, now i'm new to setting up equipment so i might be missing something,

Im using a Akai Mpk49 midi controller keyboard which is running via a usb cable which works fine in logic.

Iv'e connected up the roland Gaia to my Edirol UA-25EX audio interface by a midi lead which i have coming out from the Gaia's midi out into the UA-25EX midi in, i also have the left and right output jacks coming from the Gaia into the UA-25EX left and right,( which are making a crackling sound) Rokit KRK 5 speakers

Im getting sound through my monitor speakers, but i cant seem to record any midi notes into logic pro 9

Iv'e installed the disc that came with the Gaia,

I would be grateful for any help.

Thanks....

Have a look in Logic environment, see if the UA-25EX's MIDI connection is active.

Doesn't the Gaia have a USB connection for MIDI too (like the Akai), I think that's what the disk contained, the driver information.
Perhaps there is a setting within the Gaia to use MIDI, or USB for communication.

The 'cracking sound' is worrying...

A this is so new, I doubt there are many other Gaia owners who can help, in fact, you're probably the first here. That makes you the Gaia expert!

Hi

I managed to get my gaia working in logic pro 9

Ive connected it via the usb cable to my edirol ua-25ex i also have the left and right audio jacks connected, which sounds grate!

In logic pro i select from the drop down menu new external midi track and select the gaia sh-01, ive created a phat bass sound, when i press record and play a bass note it records the midi data, but records it 2 octaves higher than i played it in?

Also it won't let me bounce in place to audio so im unable to at EQ and use any of my effects from my plugins ?

Good to hear you've managed to get something happening..

I've no clues to why the recorded MIDI data is recorded an octave higher than what was played in.
Doubt it's a 'transformer' that's in the environment.
Perhaps it's transposed +24 on the track?

If you wish to eq, and use plug ins, then the you will need to record the Gaia to an audio track, as at the moment Logic is playing the Gaia via MIDI data. Once recorded as an audio track you should be able to do what you like. (don't forget to mute the MIDI track - else you'll hear doubled bass line)

Hi

I managed to set up the roland gaia with logic pro 9,

I"ve got the gaia set to my Edirol ua-25ex, with both of the midi in and out leads running from the gaia to the ua-25ex, i also have the 2 left and right audio jacks set up as well from the gaia into the ua-25ex, the synth sounds amazing coming through my monitor's.

In logic pro 9 in the environment window in the top left corner drop down menu i selected midi instrument, then in the new drop down menu i selected new instrument, i renamed this instrument gaia, in the port section i selected my ua-25ex.

Then i returned back to the arrange page and created a new software instrument, then on the channel strip plugin menu i selected external instrument, i opened the external instrument.
where it says midi destination i selected the roland gaia from the drop down menu and selected input 1-2.

Now the gaia sounds phat when i play through my rokit krk 5 monitors, nice and analog with nice bottom end, nice and earthy, but when i record it into logic is seems to lose its analog sound all the bottom end logic doesn't record,
why would this be?

Can any one tell me why this would be.......

Thanks for the advice.
