I have an old and trusted JV-1000 used for gigging. Memories are stored on duplicate M-256E cards.
1. Keyboard now not recognising one of the cards - Error message - "DATA Card Not Formatted Correctly"
Dead battery, contacts dirty?
2. Have changed battery in card, bit it still shows message
Will do until formatted to instrument using the card.
3. Have tried dumping JV-1000 internal memories to card to try and re-initialise it, but still get error message.
Write protect turned on?
Normally when you dump the user memory to a card it will report, "DATA Card Not Formatted" Press Enter, hopefully it will then format the card.
I need my ol' JV-80 for this, but it's on loan at the moment.
4. What do I need to do to reformat the card?
If it's refusing to format the card, just make sure the battery is the correct way around. It's possible the contacts of the card are dirty, if you can side back the contact protector, give the contacts a clean.
I recently had issues with my Korg Wavestation AD. Patches stored on a data card became randomised, and distorted. After cleaning both PCM card and data card (and trying a insert / remove cards several times) all was well again.
I think the contacts had oxidised, could have even been the contacts with the card reader, hence it working after several re-tries.
5. Am now worried that remaining card may have liitle battery life left
a. If I replace the battery quickly, do I loose the memories?
b. If I change the battery while the card is in the JV-1000, and the JV-1000 is switched on, will the memories be safe (will the memory chip be powered by the JV-1000 while I change the battery?)
c. where can I get another M-256E or M-516E?
a) Probably yes.
b) Not sure, but I doubt it.
c) ebay or similar action sites.
The only really way to make sure the memory of the card is not lost forever is to dump the cards contents to the user memory, remove the card, change the battery, and then dump the user memory back into the card.
6. Have tried sourcing another JV-1000 PCB for the card reader, in case that is the faulty link - Part no. ASSY-76302150-00 PCB 293-487-00 (2/3). Electrofix Bristol (tried & trusted repair specialists) say that both Roland UK and Roland Jap are long out of stock. Is there anywhere else I should be looking?
I would imagine the JV's around that time all used the same reader, so an old JV-80/880/90/1000 is you best bet. Again ebay.
I don't think this is your problem however, as it seems to read the other data cards you have.
Many thanks

I hope you've also backed up the user, and card data to MIDI.
