So I had an X8 before hooked up at home thru and MBox for recording, and would also take it out to play on different sound systems. Had started having problems with it cutting out while I was playing, called Roland and had a bunch of stuff done by a "certified Roland repair center" ...replaced contact boards, pots, board attached to pots....still cutting out. Now I have brand new G8, and still have a problem with sounds cutting out after playing for about 15 minutes in live mode. I would set up a piano, with some pads...thought it might be related to polyphony, but now it does it with just a piano sound. Could this be related to plugging it in to an mbox...or what am I doing wrong? The sustain pedal is plugged in correctly. I'd appreciate any help anybody could provide. Thanks.

I noticed this was mentioned on the Roland Clan forums..

Seems odd it does it after 15 minutes.
It's also very strange that it's happening on a replacement G8.
I guess it might be possible you're supplier has a faulty batch of G8's (didn't fall out the back of a Toyota did they?)

Would it be possible to the Mbox out of the equation?
Does it lose audio on the headphone socket too?
You mention it's in live mode, so studio mode is ok?
By cutting out, do you meaning complete loss of audio, then back again?
What other equipment is being used, mixer, keyboard amp, leads, power connections?

At least your supplier is trying to help, as is Roland. I would expect them to, as this is pro-level gear we are talking about, with a price to match.

I hope a solution can be found.

sometimes it's less than 15 minutes...can be 5-10 minutes..it usually starts out sounding wonderful...then after a little while sound cuts out..i have since done a factory reset and hooked it up directly to 2 powered speakers, and still have the same problem after going into live set. surely it has to be me doing something wrong. right now it doesn't seem to be a problem in single mode...but honestly, I have a keyboard like this, in order to be able to adjust layer volumes live. Does anybody know what this could be? It seems like it has to be a set up problem or something...the fantom x8 i had was 2 yrs old and had this problem...the G8 is a couple weeks out of the box.

So..now I think I have it narrowed down to the fact that it was hooked up to an MBox 2 Mini interface..(have used protools for recording in the past..but not recently because of a latency issue) I disconnected the keyboard from the mbox, performed a factory reset, hooked the fantom up directly to the speakers, and now I cannot get it to fail in live mode with same patches used to layer as before. What causes this? Obviously, I'm new to the Fantom and have yet to delve deeply into the owner's manual, so if anyone has any insight it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Did you have the Fantom G8 connected to the Mbox by MIDI (in & out), or just by an audio connection?

The fact that now the Mbox is not in the equation and all is well, proves it is doing something.
If MIDI in & out where connected - my guess a MIDI loop of some kind.

It's just hooked up thru an audio connection..1/4" cable to MBox line/DI input. I thought it might be a polyphony issue..but apparently that's not the case..interface does nothing with polyphony..but, even though i'm not opening protools program...would it still go thru that sound engine? how does that explain the cutting out? please forgive me, i am very new at this smile

I've no idea why it's cutting out if only an audio connection is used.
Don't worry about being new to this, you have yourself an usual problem.
You've made some progress, the G8 seems to behave on it's own. I wouldn't mind betting the previous model you had has okay too.
Do you have an example recording of it cutting out?
Might tell me if it's clipped audio, and / or the Mbox is limiting the audio signal to protect itself.

I would use the 'line' input rather than the DI input, as I think that is a hi Z (high impedance) connection for use with electric guitars, or bass guitars.
Have you tried a different USB cable from computer to audio interface?
