I've had my 700 for 8 years and only recently wanted to start using it with my computer midi sequencer. Am I right in saying that in GM mode i should be able to record several tracks and assign them to midi channels. I cant seem to get the comp to get the 700 to give me the GM midi screen. I can get it to play the upper ch1 and lwr ch2 ect but i really want to record several tracks. Any ideas anyone.

Thnks

From what I've read in the manual, you can't enter the GM mode from the RD-700's front panel. (P98)
It enters this mode when it receives a set of instructions via MIDI, a GM or GS reset.
This is normally a set of system exclusive instructions;
F0 7E 7F 09 01 F7

If you have any commercial Standard MIDI Files at your disposal, it's just possible that they have the codes in the header section of the song. You could just cut and paste the data.
It's also worth pointing out that you will lose some functionally of the RD-700, only a few buttons work in this mode.

Thanks,

At 3am I got it. The software didn't have the reset GM msg. I downloaded a simple sequencer that had a button to reset it. The rd700 then stays in GM mode while I switched to the better sequencer and it all worked well. The GM screen appeared and as you say very little function except the SOund card. I will look into maybe using the simple sequencer and record using it then import that into the better sequencer and see if it takes the GM reset code with it. That would be handy.

Thanks for your help
