FYI
I managed to get a sustain pedal working with an old HP2500s, this arose because the owner didn't have the stand/pedal assembly that normally comes with a 2500s.
Here's how...
Open the piano and cut off the 6-way cable to the pedals socket, cut near the socket.
One of the wires has a stripe, this is ground and can be called wire #1.
Strip and solder wire#1 to the ring of a 6.35mm phono socket.
Strip and solder wire#2 and wire#3 to the tip of the socket.
Remove the existing 6-way socket and install the phono socket in its place.
(It fits reasonably well, although an extra plate with a hole would be better.)
Close the piano, plug in the pedal and make sure it is set for ON/OFF.
You may need to 'reverse' the pedal if the sustain is on when the pedal is up.
That's it !

In the previous post I said 'ring' - this is misleading as the socket is MONO.
I think the usual term is 'sleeve'.

with satisfying results, well done.
