GT-10 sounds great at low volume but not when it’s whacked up through a Marshall AVT combo - HELP!

This is not so much a problem I have with the GT-10, which I think is tremendous in many respects, but more a plea for advice from anyone in the same position or from a specialist who knows these products inside out. I run my GT-10 via the output select 'combo return' of a Marshall 100x AVT combo amp. At lowish volumes I get great distortion and overdrive, all wet, warm and sticky, but when the amp is cranked up a lot of that disappears and the sound becomes really raw and bright. It's still playable, but it's just not the same - it's 'tinny' and lacks warmth. The AVT combo is all I can afford - and I assume that this problem would disappear with a proper tube amp due to the quality of a tube amp's pre-amp - I could then knock off the GT-10s pre-amp and just use it for effects. So, can anyone recommend any settings on the GT-10 - pre-amps, overdrives or a combination of the two - that is calculated to give warm overdrive, like you can get from a quality Marshall [or other] head at high volume? The only answer may well be to get a decent amp/cab rig but right now that isn't a possibility! Any advice gratefully received. Thanks.

that is what is known as the "Fletcher Munsen" effect where the sound tone or loudness contour 'appears' to change at higher volumes.
Best to tweak your patches at gig levels.

Thanks gumtown, someone else has mentioned this bizarre phenomenon. I'll see what tweaking at volume produces. Cheers.

This one goes to 11...

The 'loudness' button on hi-fi's is to compensate for the "Fletcher Munsen" effect when music is played at low volumes.
Sadly people just leave it on all the time "cause it sounds betta"

Shame that there isn't one on my combo. I never had htis problem, or at least was not aware of it, when I used a decent Marshall head and a 4 x 12 back in the good old days - but the pre-amps in the big Marshalls are so much better than the rubbish in their cheaper combos. Get what you pay for, I s'pose...
