It appears that it tends to do this more when the unit is cold and it is not so prone to doing this when it has thoroughly warmed up. When I initiate a slide (run my hand up the keyboard) the unit immediately shuts off, then goes through the start menu, returning to default start settings. Otherwise, the unit works flawlessly, as far as I can tell. Does anyone know what causes this...will it get worse....can it be fixed...and if so...what would the cost estimate be?
Another VK-7 user with another fault.
Not as serious as the other one....
Sounds power supply related, possibly a dry solder joint.
Does it shut off if the unit has some 'percussive maintenance'?
Don't know if it will get worse, but it's certainly not going to get better.
Anything can be fixed, depends on if your willing to pay the price.
If it were me, I would be tempted to have a look myself. See if there anything obviously wrong.
Things like:
Lose cable / connections.
Using an isolated screwdriver tapping various points on the circuit board to see if it happens.
That said, I have some electronic & electrical background. Not everyone feels safe around electrics.
If in doubt - leave it out.
A specialist synth / keyboard repairer are hard to find, depending on your area.
I have used my local TV / video / audio repairer to fix some of my items (a radio microphone in fact).
So it might be worth looking for one of those, and asking them.
Guesitmate..
My local repairer asks for anywhere between £30 to 60 deposit, depending on the complexity of the device. That fee is taken off the final repair price.
Thanks for your fast reply. Actually I do have a keyboard repairman available (about 50-60km away)....I can fix some electrical stuff, however I'm a little shy about diving into this little beast. Maybe I'll schlep this thing over there...
This is a problem I've had with the VK7 (albeit very rarely). I actually posted on this forum a couple of months ago because my VK7 had stopped working altogether, but it's fixed now and working fine - thanks for everyone's advice on that. But I did have this problem with the VK7 even before that. I haven't really worried about it because it's only ever happened 3 or 4 times, but I'm intrigued to know if and how you've managed to sort it. It seems to be some kind of information overload thing because the only times it's ever happened are when I do a big slide, or move a lot of drawbars very quickly.
Unfortunately, I have taken no further action since my last writing, as I've had little time to play music at all....however, my problem seems consistent with the "information overload" issue you mentioned. I am encouraged, however, by the fact that my VK-7 doesn't seem to do it when it is fully "warmed up".
