Hello, I wonder if someone could suggest a solution to my issue.
I've had a Juno-D for quite some time but never tried to use it as a midi controller until this week when I bought a Skytronic midi usb cable interface to connect the Juno-D to the PC in order to trigger Cubase's Hallion instruments.
The Juno-D itself has the default factory settings in place with the exception of me turning off local control. I am able to trigger Halion instruments and to record the midi created and play it back.
However, whenever I play two or more keys simultaneously, on releasing the keys all but one key sounds again as if I've repressed them. The Juno-D doesn't do this in audio mode and I'm struggling to work out what part of the midi chain is setup incorrectly or whether I've simply got a faulty interface for example.
Does anyone have any idea as to what could cause such a problem?
If I was a betting man, I think I would put a fiver on your suggestion of the interface.
These happy shopper USB devices can work, but sometimes they can be a pain.
It's like the old joystick/MIDI connection on SoundBaster cards. Sometimes fine, but start throwing sysex data at them they fall over.
You've done all the right things: local off, connections, and have got it to work (kind of).
I know my D-50 sends an 'all notes off' message when all keys are released, I've had a look at the manual of the Juno D, it does send all notes off, but it does receive it. Just wondered if that might be throwing the USB interface off guard, but clearly not.
Th only suggestion I can offer is see if you can borrow a 'branded' MIDI interface. See if the problem continues. If it doesn't then it would appear the interface is the weakest link..
Are you using a laptop, or desktop?
It shouldn't make a difference I know, but I was trying to get a laptop to work with emagic's SoundDiver synth editor program and failed.
No mater what I tried, happy shopper USB MIDI interface, USB to serial interface then MIDI interface, I had no joy.
Soon as I installed it on a desktop, I was fine using a serial connection.
I started by trying it out on my desktop but have also tried it on a laptop with the same result. The little information that comes with the interface suggests loading two instances of the driver can be problematic (it says to keep the usb in the same port in fact to avoid this) but I know for sure this hasn't been the cause of it. So, if my Juno-D setup is correct then I guess it really is possible I've just 'got what I've paid for' in buying a cheap interface.
I don't know anyone with a midi interface so I'll likely just have to buy a branded one then. Not sure the rule on the forum but if it's allowed could you (or anyone) recommend something? I only want the simplest chain, Juno-D to PC in order to trigger the Cubase sounds and record midi parts.
Sounds as if you just need a relatively simple 1 in 1 out unit.
No doubt you've done the Google search, and got back a vast selection, with varying prices from here to the moon.
When I want bits & bobs like this, my first stop is Studiospares.
My last two MIDI interfaces come from ebay, but my first was from Studiospares.
Make sure you do your homework, check the one you think is right for you as drivers for your OS on your computer.
It's a shame you don't know of anyone with a MIDI interface you could try, as it would confirm our suspicions. I would hate you to purchase another interface, only to find you've got the same issues.
There is one thing you might try, just have the connection from MIDI out of the Juno. See if it still plays up.
