Hi
On page 89 - TONE LIST - under the heading 'OTHERS'
I have:
15 Piano 1
16 Piano 1w
17 Piano 1d
and there are more like it, later in the list!

my question is this: what does 'w' and 'd' stand for?
are they abbreviations?
(Roland UK helpline did not know!)
I cannot HEAR any difference.......
please explain, if you know

Hi Tony,

The List of 'other' tones is normally for use when using midi files which conform to the GM, GS, or XG standards. The voice names you mention are the voice names introduced by Yamaha when they developed XG (eXtended General midi) This had a larger soundset over the previous GM soundset. The 'w' and 'd' did have a meaning, but I was never sure exactly what they were. My best guess is 'w' = with LFO and 'D' = detuned.

These names have had to carry on to be compatible with the XG standard, although this is now also incorporated into GM2.
