Hello,
I'm thinking about buying an FX pedal for my guitar and I was wondering which would be suitable? I'd want something quite cheap (£70/120$US) Can anyone recommend one? I was looking at "http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/71392"
I play mostly indie, maybe a bit of metal and blues, but I would want a pedal with all the cool effects like chorus, reverb, phaser, delay.
Thank you so much
The Boss ME-25 has only just been released and the specs indicate this is a great entry level multi effects pedal with amp modelling as well as effects. It also comes with a USB audio/midi interface and Sonar 8.5 LE for recording, and a librarian software for patch saving/swapping.
I have been away at a training event all week, and have had a good look at the ME25. It looks and sounds amazing, and is very easy to use. I can thoroughly recommend it. It should be in the shops very soon.
I was the first person to buy one of these at my local guitar shop. I've been searching for reviews but I guess not enough people have purchased yet. So far I've been loving this pedal. Compared to other pedals of the same price this thing is packed with stuff to play with. I'll probably sell a few pedals since they've become obsolete now. The PC access is brilliant, being able to download preset tones in your multi is easy. The cakewalk recording software is awesome I'm sure, as I've used previous versions in the past.
Does anyone know if I can use multiple effects in the same category at once? For example, can I use the chorus and the rotary at the same time? I wish the instruction manual was a bit more in depth, showing off every possibility the unit has to offer. I'm sure I'll figure it out if it's possible though, the unit has been easy to use so far.
I highly recommend the ME-25 if you're like me and want to sample all of the BOSS sounds/effects/tones to get your sound without purchasing dozens of pedals. The price really is a steal.
you can only use one of the listed modulation effects at one time per effects catagory, so not both the rotary and chorus.
You will have to make User patches with different effects, and switch patch to use different combinations of effects. The rest of the sounds look easy enough to dial in on the fly.
If you need help with things like this, it may be worth shopping with a Roland Planet store. There may be one near you. There are many thoughout the UK and around the world. These are normally manned by a Product Specialist from Roland who can help with this type of enquiry. They can even arrange a 1-2-1 lesson for you. You will find a list of UK Roland Planet stores here: http://www.roland.co.uk/articles/default.aspx?c=222
There are now 300 Planet stores around the world and will appear in the US later this year.
Hi All,
There is a patch editor for the ME-25 which can be downloaded from http://sourceforge.net/projects/me-edit/. There are both PC and MAC versions. It has GUI representations of all the effect pedals used in the ME-25, looks like it could be very useful, but I haven't had much luck getting it to work.
But that's not my problem at the moment.... mine is that the signal coming from the USB connection of the pedal into my Windows 7 HP machine (4gb)appears to be delayed.
I've tried switching the on-board sound off, and using a creative sound card, and I've tried altering latency settings, and bit rate (16 and 24), and everything else I can see to tweak, but I'm not getting anywhere.
I am assuming that the USB port should deliver the same signal as the the jack outputs, and that it is not just for updating the memory.
Any one got any ideas, even if it is only a list of steps to check things?
As for the ME-25-edit patch editor, it is currently unfinished because a.) Boss/Roland have refused me the midi implimentation document, b.) the ME-25 is not yet available in New Zealand yet. A few people have enquired about the editor, i have asked if they could tell me what is not working in it so i can fix it, but no one has replied back.
For the Windows 7 problem with the audio, i would assume you have already installed the USB software driver.
The driver is ASIO compliant, so you need ASIO based software to use it with minimal latency, such as the supplied Sonar recording software. From the Options/Audio menu, select the driver as ASIO.
This will lead to another problem, your computersouncard may not be ASIO compliant, and ASIO specification only allows one audio device at one time in use.
There is a way around this by installing ASIO4ALL from http://www.asio4all.com/
with the ME-25 USB connected, from ASIO4ALL's control panel, select the advanced screen (the spanner thing) and enable all the audio devices (ME-25 and computer card), then from Sonar, select ASIO4ALL as the audio device, this will allow multiple audio devices to run together AND with very low latency.
OK Gumtown.. firstly...thanks for such a quick response. These things can be very frustrating when, after a day at work... you have to start thinking all over again..!
I will keep you up to date with how I get on with the editor.... but first I will try your suggestions re the ASIO option.
Thanks Gumboy, the asio4all driver appears to have done the trick. It appears to have go the latency down t an acceptable level. Now all I have to do is get ME-edit to work. The problem appears to be that although it appears to pick up the settings stored in the ME-25, it doesn't appear to be able to re-write them. It tells me it is unable to establish a USB connection. This may of course be down to something I haven't done... but the instructions with the ME-25 are not as intuitive as I would wish. Perhaps it's an age thing!
