If you were too choose only one instrument that you can master and play all styles of music, which instrument would you want to play?

I prefer piano as it generates nice sound and I also used to play it but the disadv is you can't take it everywhere as you can do with guitar.

I am looking for your views and comments.

Each to his/her own, I guess, but I used to play piano years ago and stopped 'cos I couldn't find time & space to practice. If you go for guitar you could get a cheap electric (more robust than acoustic) and take it wherever you go. Maybe get one of those tiny practice amps you can wear on your belt & plug your headphones into it, so no-one else can hear you whilst you are learning! There are loads of great dvd tuition packages that you can get from Amazon, etc., depending on what style of music you want to play.

Interesting idea for discussion on the forum.
Makes a change from "Where's my Windows 7 drivers I wanted yesterday" messages.

I have a keyboard, strictly a synth. I wouldn't describe myself as a keyboard player. It's a device that lets me enter notes into my sequencer.
I started on drums. Guitars are alien to me.
So from my point of view a synth not only offers 'nice sound', but lots of different sounds.
A guitar and piano are both equally expressive instruments in the right hands, but you could say the same of a violin, or saxophone.

Just realised I missed a golden opportunity grin :

Now I like Guitars.
I like Pianos.
But which is best?
There's only one way to find out.. FIGHT!!!!

Roland make a guitar synth that has all the roland keyboard sounds on your fretboard so who needs keyboards!! Mind all the keyboardists I know were always the brainy ones in the band, the bass players were happy but confused, the singers loved themselves, the guitarists always wanted to be louder and the drummers......... don't get me started on drummers!

Its guitars all the way for me, seen one piano you've seen them all. Every guitar is a bit different, they are more tactile, more portable and more rock n roll.

Or are they?

I think guitar for portability and that instant access.
I love piano though never played one seriously. I recently have got into computer/midi stuff, and I use a keyboard/controller to make piano noises through my laptop, which is great!
