I've just purchased the GR-20/GK-3, am having some trouble getting sound out of it when connected to my 15W guitar amp.

- The GK-3 MIDI pickup is correctly set between bridge and pickup (screw method).
- The GK-3 is set to 'GK' mode.
- Fretting the highest note on both e-strings brings the strings to 1mm from the pickup as instructed in the manual.
- The L.E.D on the GR-20 triggers when notes are played.
- The sensitivity has been adjusted such that all the bars light when a string is plucked hard.
- The guitar signal reaches the amp without a problem.
- The GR-20 is set up for guitar-amp (GA) output, as opposed to line output.
- All the volumes are turned up!

I've performed a factory reset, to no avail. Is there something I've missed?

Hi Tool-fairy,

This sounds like quite a pickle! However, there is one thing I think you may have overlooked. Have you connected the outputs and the guitar out to an amp, or just the guitar out?

Setting up the GR-20 to GA output mode does not route the signal of the synth out of the 'guitar out' output. It merely sets the output level so that it suits the input of the amp it is connected to. This makes it possible to connect the normal synth outs to a guitar amp.

If I am correct in thinking you have not connected the normal (synth) L+R outs to your amp, then you need to think about how you want to do this. You may have an aux in on you guitar amp, for playing back a CD player or similar. This would be suitable for connecting the synth outs to. Or alternatively, you could connect the synth outs to a dedicated amplifier, or inputs or a desk for example. This would give you more control over the final sound than if the original guitar signal was mixed with the synth, because you may wish to use an effects processor on your guitar sound, but not the synth sounds.

Regards

John
