Hey anyone,

I looking to buy either a spd-s or a spd-30.

I know both have there pro's and cons

like the spd-s only have a max of 512 mb memory and only one trigger input ( that can be split into two)
and the spd-30 doesnt have a line/mic sampler but does have alot of trigger inputs?

And is hard to import new samples on to the spd-30 and does it have lots of space

I'm trying to my research but I can't make my mind up

I just want it for looping and some samples on my acoustic kit

if anyone else has anymore pros and cons of the two item
you will be much loved

        Hi,

I'm new to v-drums and picked up this kit off a friend who hasn't got time to use it. I have a TD-8 brain, PD-7 high hat, 2x cy-12 crash/ride, 4x pd-80 (3x tom, 1x snare) and 1x kd-8.

I've got it all hooked up and have been playing with it for a day. Firstly, every time I turn it on it says;

BACKUP NG!
EXECUTE FACTORY
RESET ALL ...

And then says battery backup is low. I get past that, and have been adjusting the master volume of everything to 127, making sure output on all is set to MAS and yet everything is extremely quiet. The strange thing is if I press preview on any of them it is at least double the volume so it's not the volume out of the headphones.

Could anyone give any advice? Apologes if any of the model numbers are wrong, this is my first v-drum kit.

Thanks

        Hi

I´ve recently tried to buy the Roland TDK4 V-drum in a Local Distributor, but the distributor keeps telling me that Roland it´s not shipping that item for several months and I´ve been told that the company keeps delaying that item also the Boss VE-20 vocal effects, I tried to buy it at Guitar Center and they also like many other US stores have the same problem that the shipments on that item are delayed, please could you tell me what´s the real problem with these items? is it fabrication problems or the factory is out of stock?
Hi all.
I have a TD12 kit.
I practice in a small music room and wanted some powered speakers to plug the kit into.
The cost of a PM3 or PM30 is beyond me at the mo so I looked for an alternative.
I found a Roland DM-2100 set of powered speakers on ebay and called Roland to see if they would be any good.
I was told they would be fine.
I have just tried them.
Problem is that when I play the kick drum, not particularly loud, the sub woofer distorts real bad.
To stop distortion I have to turn it real low making it pointless.
My question is, have I been given the wrong info, ie, they are no good for electronic drums, or, does it mean the sub is bust??
Cheers.

I always had an issue with the hats on my old TD-8 in that it almost felt like they were always fully open or fully closed - the section of the movement range of the pedal (fd-7) that yielded a 'half-open' sound was so small that it was practically impossible to get a good half-open sound reliably, and most of the movement range of the pedal just yielded a fully open sound. It does feel a bit better now that I've got the td-10 with tdw-1 - the progression from open to closed feels a bit better spaced.

I was just wondering though - would this facet of the hats be improved further if I were to get a vh-11, as against using a pd-8? (Disregarding other factors e.g. realistic representation of the sound you get by hitting the closed hats and then immediately opening them.) I know in the manual of the vh-11 it does say that it is merely 'compatible' rather than 'fully compatible' with the td-10 with tdw-1, but equally I have seen in posts over at vdrums.com that the expanded td-10 is better able to take advantage of the vh-11 than the td-8 would be.

Cheers,

Figured out how to effectively change which output a given drum comes out of at patch level

I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself :o)

I was thinking how much easier it would make my effects routing issues (I've been using the four discrete processors in my Ensoniq DP/4 to process each of the four outputs of my TD-8 seperately, then taking the outs from the DP/4 to a mixer to mix with the outs from my SPD-S and sending three outs from the mixer to the desk - one for snares, one for kicks and toms, and one for cymbals - so the sound guy/girl still has broad control over my mix) if I could change which output a given drum was coming out of with a simple kit change - the problem being that the output assignments on the td-8 are at global rather than patch level.

I did have TD-8, SPD-S and DP/4 all midi linked so I could just change the effect on any given drum (e.g. have a bit of delay on the snare and hats in one bit of the song and then just on the hats in a different bit) with a simple patch change triggered from a footswitch taped to the heel plate of my hat pedal - but the DP/4 takes ages (over half a second) to respond to midi patch change instructions, or even bypass instructions, and it's the same using my Digitech Quad 4 instead of the DP/4. And during this delay period all sound going through it is cut so that's no good at all. Of course you can just change the patch on the DP/4 with a switch going direct to it, but I need to be able to change kit on the brain (even if that's just to change snare sound) at the same time as changing how particular drums are processed. And ideally I want to be able to initiate the change just by hitting a pad, so the brain needs to be first in the chain.

I realised that when the expanded TD-10 module I picked up on eBay a few days ago (for £362) :o) arrives, and I have eight outs, being able to change which output a given drum or group of drums comes out of by just changing kit would offer me massively increased flexibility to change or bypass effects (in this case literally physically bypass the whole box!) without sending any midi data to the effects box (especially if I use the Quad 4 as well as the DP/4, with four of the brain's outs to each one) - think about it carefully and you'll see what I mean. Principally with the kick, as of course you can always have two snares or two pairs of hats coming through different outs on the kit (especially as I play a strange non-rack-based setup with a pair of hats and a snare both directly in front of me rather than having the hats to the left) - but it would be nice to be able to stay on the one snare and change which out you're coming out of too.

The solution I figured out is to put a "stereo to 2X stereo" splitter in the output(s) of my pad(s) and route one to (e.g.) my kick input and the other to my aux input, then set the aux input to 'off' in one patch and the kick input to 'off' and the aux input to a kick sound in the next patch, then route the aux and kick inputs to different outputs and bingo, you have your kick coming out of different outs in different patches. And I'll be able to do this with several drums as I play a small kit with not many pads. Or even split pads between three different outputs by using two splitters in sequence, to have two different effects and a bypass option.

This is going to be really useful for me with my set-up - just thought I'd post it up here in case it's of use to anyone else with nice juicy routing puzzles like mine. Damn I love routing puzzles.

        Hi folks

I'm totally new to this so any help would be very much appreciated.

I want to be able to assign sounds from the sampler to the pads on the drum machine. I think I have the connections right. There's a midi out on the drum machine and a midi in on the sampler which I've used. When I play a stored pattern from the drum machine it's using sounds from the sampler but that's all the control I've been able to get. The plan is to record/download my own sounds on to the sampler then use the drum pads in a live setup where I can change the sounds being triggered by the drum machine by changing banks on the sampler.

I hope that isn't as clear as mud. I need rescued!

Cheers
